This password-security test tool allows system administrators to identify and close security holes in their networks. Proactive Windows Security Explorer executes an audit of account passwords and exposes those that are insecure. If it's possible to recover the password within a reasonable amount of time, the password is considered insecure. The software supports a few methods of obtaining password hashes for further attacks or audits: from dump files, registries of local computers, binary registry files (SAM and system), memories of local computer, and memories of remote computers (domain controllers), including those running Active Directory. The program can use brute-force and dictionary attacks on LM and NTLM password hashes, effectively optimized for speed. Version 1.1 adds a preliminary attack option and many other enhancements. |
